Adonis Filipi
“A theater of poetic intensity, where image, movement, and illusion reshape the language of the stage.”
Adonis Filipi was born in Berat, Albania. He graduated from the Institute of Arts in Tirana (now the University of the Arts) between 1978 and 1982, specializing in Drama. Following his studies, he developed a strong affinity for stage directing, dedicating himself fully to an artistic path defined by both rigor and creative exploration.
He began his career with the amateur theatre troupe “Tekstilisti” in his hometown, where his directorial voice first emerged. He later continued as a stage director at the city theatre of Berat, before expanding his collaborations to numerous professional theatre companies across Albania.
A significant turning point in his career came in 1998, when he was invited to work with the renowned Skampa Theatre in Elbasan. There, he achieved notable success with his production of Death by Woody Allen, recognized for its contemporary aesthetic and distinctive directorial language

Filipi’s work is characterized by a refined theatrical vision that seeks new forms of expression through the exploration of dramatic depth. His productions often combine poetic sensibility, visual imagery, movement, and contrast to create layered and immersive stage experiences.
Some of his most prominent productions, in addition to well-known Albanian playwrights such as Çajupi, Shabani, Neziraj , refer to the works of great world playwrights such as Shakespeare (Henry VI/2), Sophocles (Electra), Euripides (Medea), Ionesco (The Future is in the Egg), Ben Jonson (Volpone– adapted by Stephan Zweig), Howard Brenton (Anne Boleyn),Dario Foo, Doru, Motoc, David Mamet, Woody Allen, Tennessee Williams, etc.

For more than twenty-eight years, the festival has served as an important platform for contemporary theatre and international cultural exchange. He also co-founded and co-directed the Apollon International Acting Festival, held for fourteen years at the archaeological site of Apollonia in Fier.
