ELECTRA

SOPHOCLES

Premiere 14 June 2018

Directed by  Adonis Filipi

Human suffering is contagious.

That is why Electra returns again and again, across every era, in every society.

Electra by Sophocles, directed by Adonis Filipi at Shandong Modern Drama Association. A contemporary interpretation of Greek tragedy exploring grief, revenge and justice.

Burdened by grief and worn down by misery, Electra, the daughter of King Agamemnon murdered by her own mother, Clytemnestra, and her lover Aegisthus has abandoned the royal palace. Anxiety sustains her a state shaped by waiting, the urgency of revenge, and the need to restore justice. For a long time now, there has been no sign of life from her brother, Orestes.Alone, she is sustained by a single belief: that he will return, reclaim the throne that is rightfully his, avenge the treacherous crime, and restore justice.

We saw an amazing performance of Shandong Drama Association. Electra”  a masterpiece of ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, full of sins, killings, censure, vengeance and other pain and challenges in ethics, ethics, society, and aesthetics,  have important values and are one of the important references for the consideration of the development and artistic value of contemporary drama creation.A deeply compelling performance, rich in emotional intensity, where physical theatre takes precedence alongside a profoundly expressive use of language. The carefully crafted symbolism and the powerful performances of the protagonists Electra, Clytemnestra, and the Tutor stand out, while the ensemble as a whole delivers a cohesive and impactful presence. The direction reveals a refined artistic vision, shaped with great sensitivity and skill.
