HENRY VI/2

William Shakespeare

Premiere 2012

Directed by  Adonis Filipi

'The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.'

Young King Henry returns from wars in France with Margaret, his new Queen. The domineering Queen and the Earl of Suffolk take advantage of the King’s weakness to further their own political ends, much to the horror of the Duke of Gloucester. As the lords scheme and plot against one another, Jack Cade stirs up dreams of rebellion amongst the peasants, and, as the Wars of the Roses begin, King Henry is forced to take up arms to defend his crown.

Henry VI Part 2 by William Shakespeare is a powerful historical drama exploring political conflict, ambition and the early stages of the Wars of the Roses. The play depicts the struggle for power within the English court, where alliances shift and rebellion begins to rise. This production, directed by Adonis Filipi, reinterprets Shakespeare’s work through a contemporary theatrical language, focusing on tension, movement and visual composition.
